Filter's Richard Patrick Guests With Crystal Method, Speaks Out About Former Partner from allstar, the better online music magazine at http://www.allstarmag.com/ Filter's Richard Patrick made a surprise guest appearance ith The Crystal Method during the Electric Highway tour stop in Chicago last week, joining the band on "(Can't You) Trip Like I Do," their collaborative single from the mega- selling Spawn soundtrack. While the band's Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan pounded out the song on their keyboards, Patrick belted out the vocals, to the loud approval of the audience. Afterward, Patrick commented on the recent departure of Filter's other member, Brian Liesegang. "Brian's a very talented man, and I really respect his charisma. But there's a sad truth to Filter. The sad truth is I own everything. I'm the band, I'm the entity, I'm Filter. I write everything. I record everything. It's my guitar riffs. It's my basslines. It's my drum ideas. It's my vocals. It's my lyrics. "He felt like he was servicing me," Patrick continued, "so I understand that. I felt like that, that's why I quit Nine Inch Nails, because I always felt like I was servicing Trent. So it's probably the best thing that could happen to both of us. Brian was always hoping that he could be more involved with the band, with the writing, the lyrics, everything. But it all has to go through me, and I think the employee status of the whole situation is what led him to make his decision. "I wrote Short Bus before Brian came in," adds Patrick on Filter's hit debut album. "And he came in on a tech level. He was a technician. I think that Brian wants to prove his own thing. He should, and I think it's great."
